Proposed JLR expansion at i54 site is welcomed

A proposal by Jaguar Land Rover to expand its flagship i54 plant has been hailed as 'fantastic news'.

JLR is holding three public meetings next week when it will unveil the plans.

Its £500 million manufacturing centre just off the M54 near Telford was opened by Her Majesty The Queen last October with 1,400 jobs created.

The proposals are being kept under wraps for now, with bosses preparing to unveil them to the public next Thursday.

But there is a suggestion that all of the unoccupied land left on the i54 site has been bought up by JLR. Letters have been sent to nearby residents inviting them to attend.

And the planned expansion would lead to a further economic growth and more local jobs, Staffordshire County Council's economy chief believes.

Mark Winnington said: "It is fantastic news that Jaguar Land Rover is looking to expand its operations at i54 South Staffordshire.

"This shows how successful the company is and also that its operation here in Staffordshire is thriving.

"It also further demonstrates that Jaguar Land Rover made the right choice in locating to i54 South Staffordshire.

"It will mean more local jobs and have a positive impact on the regional economy.

"We will be working closely with the company and local residents through the planning process."

Bushbury councillor Daniel Warren said he was anxious to see the plans. He added: "Any further expansion and creation of jobs is good as long as Bushbury people have the opportunity to have jobs in that area."
