M54 roadworks delay caused by 'excess materials' being packed away

Motorists were prevented from using the M54 during the morning commute because workers were still packing materials away, it has been revealed.

Officials from Highways England have blamed an "excess amount of materials" for the 30-minute delay in reopening the motorway between junction three for Cosford and junction five for Telford. The motorway reopened on Tuesday at 6.30am.

A spokesman for Highways England said it "wouldn't have been safe" to reopen the motorway until the road was clear.

Night-time closures between 8pm and 6am are currently in force as part of resurfacing and upgrading barriers on the motorway. The work was supposed to finish last month but will now last until June.
