The A5 was closed at the busy Dobbies island at Shrewsbury with rush hour traffic backing up for miles in both directions.

Police say no-one was seriously injured in either incidents, which happened at about 6pm either side of the busy roundabout.

Diesel on the road meant that the westbound carriageway of the Shrewsbury bypass was closed for more than an hour.

The eastbound accident involved two vans while a four by four vehicle towing a fast food trailer was involved on the Oswestry bound side of the road.

A police spokesman said that there were no injuries in either accident.

"Ambulances were requested, but it appears no one was hurt," she said.
