Star reader Robert captures mellow yellow in the Shropshire countryside

They are as pretty as a picture – but can be a nightmare for anyone suffering with hayfever.

This picture, taken by Shropshire Star reader Robert Brown, shows the beauty of rape seed fields. Robert took this picture in a field near Wem, one of thousands across the county that have turned yellow as more land is turned over to the crop.

Rape seed has become a part of the Shropshire landscape in the last 20 years as it has become a crop that is in demand.

But it is one of the reasons given for rising levels of hayfever and asthma among sufferers.

Robert's picture is the latest to make it onto the Star Witness galleries on shropshirestar.com. Every month a winner is chosen and a prize of £100 handed over for the best photograph.

Robert captured the shocking yellow of the crop against the dark grey spring skies over Shropshire.

There are likely to be more dark clouds to be seen over the region in coming days as the unsettled spell continues.

And temperatures show no sign of rising, bumping along at around 15C (59F) during the day for the rest of the week.
