Around 3,000 fans in Bridgnorth are expected to join the town's rugby team in London for the RFU Intermediate Cup.

That means a convoy of 15 coaches making their way from the livestock market in Tasley, while others make their way by car for Sunday's big game.

The first team's match against Maidstone has really caught the town's imagination with more than 400 items emblazoned with club's logo being sold at Stitches in Bridgnorth.

The printed and clothing company has been selling hoodies, polo shirts, scarves, caps, badges, scarves and flags, with money from the sales helping to pay for the first team's expenses.

Support has been coming in from all over the district as former players, supporters and current club members wish the team the very best for Sunday's showpiece.

Geoff Davies, Bridgnorth Town Councillor, owner of sponsors Central Power and member of Bridgnorth Rugby Club, today said he was looking forward to a celebration, with a day that the whole town would remember for generations.

He said: "We are hoping to watch our boys rewriting our club's history – and we are very proud sponsors."

The first team at Bridgnorth Rugby Club, known as the All Blacks, have been unbeaten all season.

More than 1,000 turned up to the semi-final of the cup and the club's success has caught the imagination of people who have never before watched a rugby match.

Hundreds of the fans watching the club take on Maidstone tomorrow have played for Bridgnorth in the past.

They include Richard Yates, chairman of the Shropshire NFU, who farms at Middleton Scriven. He said: "As a proud member of the engine room that represented Bridgnorth for 14 years, I reflect with pride the club's upward trajectory.

"Despite visiting too many A&Es whilst playing rugby for Bridgnorth, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and values of our great game.

"The team has done tremendously well to reach the final . All we want now is for the players to put some coal on the fire and bring back the cup."

The club has organised two huge parties at the Edgar Davies Ground – one to send the team off and one to welcome them home.

Today's event started at 11.30am with founding member, Bob Turner, presenting the players with their special strip at 12.30pm as they boarded their coach.

The remaining fans enjoyed live music from Midset Buk, bouncy castles for the children, hot food and a licensed bar.

The "welcome home" party on Monday will start at the Edgar Davies from 1.30pm. The event will include more live bands, food and drink.
