Major Telford road to reopen early after surface repairs

A road in Telford will reopen six days ahead of schedule following emergency roadworks.

Telford & Wrekin Council said it will reopen Castle Farm Way in Priorslee on May 9.

The council said the works to fully reconstruct the road have been stepped up to include road closures, to enable the work to be done quicker than originally planned.

Work had to be undertaken after a planned resurfacing programme revealed that the carriageway had failed and needed completely rebuilding.

"We have pulled out all the stops to get the work done as quickly as possible to minimise delays and I am pleased that we will be able to complete the project six days ahead of schedule.

The council said the extensive work of the carriageway will also address issues raised by residents about excessive noise and vibration on the road, and will mean no more maintenance is needed for a long period of time.

Already completed is the base course laid from the Salisbury Avenue junction to the Priorslee Avenue junction.

From yesterday, access to Priorslee Avenue has been restricted for up to three days although the exit onto Castle Farm Way from Priorslee Avenue will be unaffected.

The final phase of work will start next Tuesday and will last for five days.

To carry out this work as quickly and safely as possible, the council said junctions onto Castle Farm Way have to be closed for one day each.

Earlier this month, Kevin Turley, of Lakeside Garden Centre, on Woodhouse Lane, off Castle Farm Way, said roadworks in the area had seen his sales decline 20 per cent during the last two months.

He added businesses had not been properly supported during the build-up to the works.

The work has meant the road's southbound lane had to be closed from Limekiln Bank to Castle Farm Interchange.

The council said it had been working with its contractors to agree a way of working which does not involve side roads being closed, but does still mean the work will be completed as quickly as possible.

Residents are being urged to sign up to email alerts for live updates on closures from the council, which they can register for at www.telford.gov.uk/cfway
