Andrew Sheldon, director of Hollyhead Estates, which is seeking planning permission for 300 houses near to Bicton, was given the warning by Shropshire and Shrewsbury town councillor Malcolm Price.

The proposal is to build south of Holyhead Road at Bicton.

Councillor Price, who represents Battlefield for the unitary authority, said: "It has been made quite clear by Shropshire Council that it does not support this scheme. I would not like to pre-empt any decision but I expect it to be refused."

Mr Sheldon had been giving a presentation on the plans to Shrewsbury Town Council's planning committee where he said the number of houses being considered had been reduced from 360 to "about 300" after consultation meetings.

Planning permission for more than 750 houses has already been approved for Bicton, which currently has fewer than 400 homes.

Mr Sheldon told the committee that he believes the development would be in an "extremely sustainable location" and that an outline application for the project would be submitted to Shropshire Council within the next two weeks.

The size of the site is about 48 acres.

If the project were to go ahead Mr Sheldon said they would look to create an access centrally off Holyhead Road
