More tickets released for Shrewsbury Folk Festival

Organisers of this year's Shrewsbury Folk Festival have released more tickets – after initially selling out the Friday allocation .

The festival's allocation of day tickets for Friday sold out but organisers have added more following the announcement that Los Angeles-based folk rock band Dawes will perform on August 28.

It was announced this week that the band will headline on the Friday evening.

The band, which has toured in the UK with Mumford and Sons, and appeared at Latitude, T In The Park and Hard Rock Calling festivals, was added to the bill after the Peatbog Faeries had to pull out.

Securing Dawes was a major coup for festival director Alan Surtees who had been trying to book the band for the event at the West Mid Showground for three years.

He said: "When we managed to get Dawes for the first night of the festival, we realised there would be lots of disappointed fans as we had sold out of Friday day tickets so we released a new allocation.

"Of course, the best way to enjoy the festival is by coming for all four days and sampling all we have to offer from music to dance, workshops and our dedicated children and youth programmes."

Weekend tickets offering entry from August 28 to 31 are also available along with Friday and Monday day tickets.

Youth and child tickets are available for all days. Camping is open to all weekend tickets holders at £25 per adult.

The festival has four music stages, a dance tent, more than 100 workshops, children's and youth programmes, onsite camping, a craft fair, real ale and wine bars, and food village.

Bands performing at the event include La Bottine Souriante, Oysterband, The Spooky Men's Chorale, Steve Knightley, False Lights and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, John Jones & the Reluctant Ramblers, Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys, Nancy Kerr and the Sweet Visitor Band, Ten Strings and a Goatskin and Granny's Attic.

Special performances will come from Oysterband frontman and festival patron John Jones with The Oxford Girl show, and Folk Nations – a British Council musical collaboration featuring British and South Asian artists. Book tickets at www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk
