Halfpenny Green Golf Club, near Claverley, hosts foot golf, where the holes are bigger and you kick a football around the course.

It is a competitive sport and Halfpenny Green will be hosting its third ranking event on May 4, which sees visitors compete for points in a league format.

The club has previously held two ranking events this year which have attracted dozens of visitors and the club hopes to attract even more in a few weeks time on its specially modified nine-hole course.

The sport has quickly garnered legions of fans, and has also been taken up by other courses including Shropshire Golf Centre in Muxton.

Arsenal stars Aaron Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs and Calum Chambers have praised the sport as it as the ultimate test of their passing accuracy.

Halfpenny Green manager Buta Singh Chatha, aged 29, said: "Foot Golf has been getting increasingly more popular over recent months and we are really trying to get more acknowledgement and awareness of it throughout the West Midlands and Shropshire.

"It is a good laugh, enjoyable and keeps kids active – we even have junior football teams come and play as it is great for improving accuracy."

Hole distances range from 45 to 100 yards, while plans are in place for an extended course to open this summer.
