Bryan Loynton has worked at Buildbase, in Weston Way, Market Drayton, since 1965.

He left school at 15 and went straight into the timber trade at Hawkesford, which was taken over by Buildbase in 1998, and ever since then he has honed his craft.

But now the 65-year-old, from Market Drayton, has decided to retire to spend more time with his family, and get out into the countryside.

Mr Loynton said: "I was 15 when I came to work here. Things have changed a lot since I started.

"The building trade has changed and we manufacture a lot less now. I worked on the saw mill for many years. I have seen a lot of things grow and develop over my time here.

"There was a joiner shop and a saw mill but those have more or less nearly all gone now.

"I have really enjoyed my time here.

I have mixed emotions to be leaving. It will be very strange. It feels like a double celebration as it also my birthday today.

"It certainly won't be the last time I am here as I will be visiting when I can."

Mr Loynton said he was now going to spend his retirement with his family.

He said: "I have a grandson who is eight months old, who I want to spend some more time with, as well as the rest of my family.

"I also want to do some more bird watching and get out in the countryside."

Buildbase manager Chris Gadd said: "He will be sorely missed."
