A charity football match will take place this Thursday at AFC Telford United between 40 police staff from the West Mercia force.

Officers from Telford Police are hoping to keep hold of The Georgia Williams Trophy, which they scooped in a victory last year against their north Worcestershire colleagues.

Georgia's father Steve will also head out on to the pitch in the 11-a-side match, while his wife Lynnette will present the winning team with the trophy.

It has almost been two years since Georgia, 17, was killed by Jamie Reynolds, who is serving a life sentence for her murder.

Lynnette said: "There are 24 officers from Telford and 16 from Worcester taking part. It is just a bit of fun but Telford really want to keep hold of the trophy.

"As Steve works in the police force for West Mercia it is a great social event for them all, while raising money for the trust."

The Georgia Williams Trust was set up after she was tragically murdered to create a fund for 11 to 18-year-olds to help them realise their dreams – and it has already raised more than £50,000.

Lynnette urged as many people as possible to head to the match on Thursday, which starts at 7.30pm.

Players will pay an entry fee of £10 and spectators charged £2, the snack bar and a raffle will also be available.

Last week, the trust joined forces with Immerse to fund The Georgia Williams Diving Scholarship, giving someone the chance to become a master scuba diver and open the door for them to become a professional diver when they turn 18.

Meanwhile, a spring ball, to include a four-course meal, will be held at Ford Hall at Lilleshall National Sports Centre this Saturday from 7pm until 1am to raise funds for the cause – and tickets are still available.

Tickets cost £35.
