The couple's three children, Rory, Toni and Lois, said they were being helped through their grief by the local community. Mr and Mrs Sheen also had four young grandchildren.

Welshpool Golf Club chairman John Wood said: "This has been an unbelievably sad situation for Sue and Tony's children, having lost both parents within a week of each other.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this tragic time. Sue and Tony will be greatly missed by members and visitors at Welshpool Golf Club."

Mr and Mrs Sheen had been at at the club for six years. Before that they were licensees of the Horseshoes Inn, at Berriew.

Sally Marshall, club secretary, said Mr and Mrs Sheen were a local couple although they had lived in Banbury, Oxfordshire, where they ran a pub.

She said: "There were a very popular couple, very friendly and extremely good at what they did at the golf club."

A statement released by Mr and Mrs Sheen's children said: "We are extremely grateful for the support given to the family over the past few weeks. It has been phenomenal, from a simple text or a visit to the golf club.

"We would also like to thank everyone for attendance at our mother's funeral. As much as it was a difficult day, it was also a beautiful day and was everything we hoped for. We are grateful for everyone who helped make it as special as it could be.

"We are also grateful for the wonderful support we have received from Welshpool Golf Club at this very difficult time for the family."

Mrs Sheen was buried in woodland at Westall Park Natural Burial, in Redditch, on April 8. A service for Mr Sheen will be held at Shrewsbury Crematorium on April 21, at 3.15pm.
