Dr Hook was due to play a greatest hits set at Theatre Severn tonight, and the show was to feature the actual Dr Hook – Ray 'Eye Patch' Sawyer.

But following a fall this week, the band has had to cancel the gig, which has now been rearranged for May 20 at 7.30pm.

A statement from the band said: "This week lead singer Ray Sawyer suffered a fall, which has resulted in his arm being broken.

"It was decided by the management of the band after consultation with Ray's Doctor that it would be wise to postpone the remaining of the Hooked on Hits tour.

"We fully appreciate the disappointment and inconvenience caused by such a late postponement, and we are hugely grateful to all ticketholders for their understanding."

All existing tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date.

If anyone with a ticket is unable to attend the rescheduled performance, then the theatre will offer a credit to their account, or full refund.

Dr Hook formed in Union City, New Jersey, and enjoyed huge success with hits like Sylvia's Mother, The Cover of Rolling Stone, Sharing the Night Together, A Little Bit More and others.

Sawyer left in 1983 to pursue a solo career, while the band continued to tour successfully for another couple of years, ending with Dr Hook's One and Only Farewell Tour, with Dennis Locorriere as the sole frontman. They subsequently reformed.
