Party members in the Ludlow constituency packed out Church Stretton Parish Rooms to see Lord Carlile rubber-stamp the Lib Dem campaign at the weekend.

Lord Carlile, Former Lib Dem MP for Montgomeryshire and Government Advisor on Counter Terrorism legislation, formally adopted Charlotte Barnes, currently Shropshire councillor for Bishop's Castle, as the candidate who will be taking on Conservative candidate Philip Dunne.

He said: "Charlotte has a very impressive record as a campaigning local councillor. "She has campaigned hard on a whole raft of issues ranging from the local heath service through to mobile signals and milk prices. She would make an excellent MP."

Councillor Barnes said: "Our part of Shropshire faces some real challenges over the next few years. Our health service in particular faces some major changes and we will have to campaign hard to maintain the quality of our heath care."

"As someone who uses our local NHS, schools and services I know the pressures that they are all under. If elected, it will be my number one priority to fight to ensure that we are not neglected when it comes to the allocation of money and resources."

Charlotte was proposed by Bill Barritt of Bridgnorth and seconded by Tony Mason of Ludlow.
