Third of Telford electors to vote by post

Nearly a third of electors in Telford & Wrekin are set to vote by post in the forthcoming general election.

That equates to 37,263 postal voters which is more than 31 per cent of 119,688 people across the borough registered to vote in the Parliamentary elections – one of the highest rates in the country.

Emily Knightley, Telford & Wrekin Council spokeswoman, said: "To register, people need to make an application to vote by post. The advantages to voters for having a postal vote are if they are not able to attend to vote in the day or if it better suits their personal requirements."

The national poll is taking place on May 7. The deadline to register for a postal vote is April 21 at 5pm. Anyone who has not got a completed application to the council by that date will not be able to vote by post.

Voters in Telford & Wrekin will be voting in three elections on the day. – the national General Election, Telford & Wrekin Council elections and polls for town and parish councils.

Postal voters can send back their completed ballot form as soon as they receive it.
