Parents of murdered Telford teen Georgia Williams to appeal against Jamie Reynolds report

The parents of murdered Telford teenager Georgia Williams say a report into the handling of previous incidents involving her killer Jamie Reynolds does not go far enough.

Georgia's parents Steve and Lynette Williams said they plan to appeal against the report released following an independent investigation carried out by Devon and Cornwall Police which found three West Mercia Police officers and a staff member will face misconduct meetings.

Five other officers have been told they have no case to answer, although two of those will be subject to "management action".

But Georgia's parents have called for officers to face gross misconduct investigations.

Lynette Williams, Georgia's mother, said the family had received a copy of the report and would be lodging an appeal about the findings. The report has also been passed on to West Mercia Police.

She said: "We were very pleased with the thorough investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police.

"We are not so impressed with some of the disciplinary levels which we will be querying because of the consequences of police officers' inaction. Their inactions were terrible, it's deplorable.

"They're experienced officers, they should have known what they were doing and they really let the public down and they really let Georgia down. At the very least it should be gross misconduct."

West Mercia Police said it would be inappropriate to comment until misconduct proceedings had concluded.

The investigation was launched following Jamie Reynolds' conviction for the murder of 17-year-old Georgia.

It relates to more than one incident involving Reynolds, including one where he was cautioned by police in 2008 when, aged 17, he lured a girl back to his house in Avondale Road in Wellington, Telford.

He used the pretence of a photo shoot and tried to strangle the girl in an attack that mirrored Georgia's murder in 2013.

In December 2013 Reynolds was told he would serve the rest of his life in prison after admitting Georgia's murder.

Stafford Crown Court heard the 23-year-old had lured her back to his home on Avondale Road in Wellington, before hanging her.
