Overnight closures on major Shropshire routes

Roadworks will see overnight closures next week on the M54 and A5.

The A5 will be closed in both directions at Preston Boats Island in the direction of Telford from Monday to Friday between 8pm and 6am.

And it will be shut at the Emstrey Island in both directions as well between 7.30pm and 7am.

Diversion routes will be set up and clearly signposted at both locations while works are being carried out to resurface the carriageways and landscape the roadside.

The £8.4 million project at the two junctions was set to finish in December but has faced several setbacks.

On the M54 work is set to continue at junction 3 for Albrighton and the carriageway will be closed in both directions between 9pm and 6am. Traffic will be diverted along a signed alternate route.

The work is part of a three-month project to resurface the carriageway between junction 5 at Telford and junction 3 at Albrighton.

Chris Kirk, speaking for the Highways Agency, said in all cases diversions would be clearly signposted.

He said: "We do as much work as possible overnight and when roads are less busy in order to keep more lanes open for road users at peak travel times.

"Drivers are advised to check their route for road works and allow extra time for their journeys where needed."
