Residents fume over Telford bin raiders
Residents of a Telford housing estate say someone is going into their communal bins at night – and emptying their contents all over the ground.
People in Meadowlea, Madeley, fear the culprits are looking for personal information.
The problem has been going on for months.
A man and a woman have been seen at night emptying the bins all over the ground.
But although the problem has been reported to the police, officers have told residents they are unable to do anything unless they have proof someone is trying to commit fraud.
Resident Richard McCreay, 30, said: "It's been going on for about four or five months, and at we first we just assumed it was someone fly-tipping.
"We also thought it might have been someone who couldn't be bothered to put their rubbish in the bin so just threw it over the fence.
"But then one of the guys who lives on the estate saw a man going through the bins, and another resident has seen a woman doing the same on a separate occasion. Telford & Wrekin Council were really good at first, because when we asked them clear up the rubbish when it happened the first time they did it straight away.
"But this time they haven't. We called them when it happened on Sunday and it's still here today," he said.
Andy Johnson, general manager, for The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: "We have been working with residents and the council to try and identify the people that are responsible for this and previous issues. A job has been logged to remove the items from the area."
A spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council said: "The council is aware of the concerns raised.
"We have been working for some time with our partners including the landowners, Wrekin Housing Trust, to find a solution to this unacceptable situation. This includes identifying the offenders who have caused the problem."
Anyone with information concerning the problem should call the council on (01952) 384384.
