No bones about it, Shrewsbury pupil's T-Rex is the best
A three-foot-high wooden skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex has earned a primary school pupil the accolade of the "best homework ever seen" by his headteacher.
David Brock, nine, from Crowmoor Primary School in Shrewsbury, created the creature after being set a homework task by his teacher Vicki Massey as part of the school's overall theme of dinosaurs.
In a demonstration of utter commitment to the task, David went home and with the assistance of his stepfather drew templates for the model and then cut them out of wood using a jigsaw.
Headteacher at the Monkmoor school, Alan Parkhurst, said they had been blown away by David's efforts.
He said: "We are just really proud of the work David put in. We were just expecting a piece of card and David comes in with a three-foot-high T-Rex. In 30 years as a teacher, it is the best piece of homework I have ever seen.
"It is a phenomenal effort. He did all the cutting out himself. His stepdad was just there to make sure he was safe."
Mr Parkhurst said the topic of dinosaurs had proved a real success with the pupils at the school, and particularly the boys.
He said: "It just has a natural resonance with boys and as with all schools we are desperately trying to encourage our boys to be better writers and to produce better work."
He added: "We are trying to get enjoyment and also get quality academic work at the end of it."
