But following a Facebook campaign the cute feline has been finally reunited with her delighted family in Bridgnorth.

A free spirit by nature, the Tortoiseshell cat would often go off for days at a time before returning home. Just before Christmas she decided to go for one of her many wanders but that was the last Pippa Pope and her family saw of her until they spotted her picture on Facebook.

The picture, placed on the home page of Severn Edge Vets, had been seen by 6,000 people and shared more than 50 times.

Pippa, her husband Rich, and their children Logan, seven, Estelle, nine, and Connor, 15, called the vets after spotting their pet and Mittens was soon backat the family home.

Pippa said: "Mittens is a free spirit and often likes to go off and do her own thing but she'd never been gone for that long before.

"Everything is done on her terms and she would quite often go for a wander but we'd still her out and about.

"Sometimes she will not come home for a couple of weeks but on this occasion she had been missing since before Christmas.

"We think sometimes other people must feed her but we were so happy when she was found. She's nearly 11 years old now but she's still a very free-natured animal who attracts people to her."Mittens has been in the family since she was a kitten and children were really pleased to see her again."

Scott Bowler, of Severn Edge Vets, said Mittens had been found on a Bridgnorth estate in February. "We decided to take a picture to try and find the owner and the response on Facebook was huge," he said.

"It was shared more than 50 times and was viewed by 6,000 people.

"The owner eventually spotted the picture herself and the family was reunited with their pet.

"Their children were very pleased to her again especially as it had been lost since before Christmas.

"Mittens had clearly been out and about for a long time. She was suffering with cat flu when she was found and had lost a lot of weight.

"The family had almost given up hope of ever seeing her again."
