Ketley residents' anger over lorries blocking road

Lorries making frequent deliveries to a recycling plant are repeatedly blocking a busy road, residents have claimed.

The lorries, delivering to Greenway Waste Recyling in Waterloo Road, Ketley, have caused the problem while waiting to get in and out of the site.

Jim Jinks, of Sinclair Gardens, said: "You can hardly get past them, they're parked all over the place and no assistance is given to people trying to get by."

Mr Jinks mentioned particular problems on Thursday, describing it as a "nightmare" as a build-up of deliveries brought traffic to a standstill for several hundred yards.

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, added: "They're a real pain. On Thursday there was a huge tailback all the way round the corner and onto the path.

Telford MP David Wright has also become involved after hearing about the problems, which affect the main stretch of road between Telford villages Ketley and Overdale.

He said: "I am worried about the impact on local residents and I am working with the local council to see if we can improve the situation.

"Clearly the company involved needs to act responsibly and be aware they need to be good neighbours."

Greenway has assured residents that they are aware of the problems and are doing everything they can to improve things.

Managing director Mark Nicholson said: "Thursday was a horrible situation and we have communicated with companies to organise staggering deliveries.

"We have also taken short-term steps to deal with the traffic situation both on and off site.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused, residents should have seen an improvement today."

The company is based close to the M54 at the former site of Pink Skips, a recognisable Telford company until its closure in April 2013.

Russell Griffin, Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman, said: "This behaviour is not acceptable and we have spoken with the operator of the site.

"Greenway has confirmed they have instructed all contractor/HGV companies that they need to wait at appropriate parking areas off the highway.

"If the drivers fail to move on Greenway have advised me they will call the police and that they have told the drivers the same.

Greenway is a waste management company from County Armagh, Northern Ireland and opened their Ketley site in early 2014.

Waste is stored at Telford by the company until being moved to a waste processing plant in Amsterdam.
