Red Dwarf actors heading to Telford for Comic Con

Stars of cult sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf will head to Telford this weekend to meet fans at a huge comic convention.

Sci-fi fans, movie buffs and comic collectors are set to flock to Telford International Centre on Saturday.

MCM Expo Group hosts some of the UK's largest and most popular Comic Con events and memorabilia collectors shows – and Shropshire will host its first event of the year.

It's set to be a day filled with comics, movies, games, anime and cosplay, which will see thousands of people dress up as fictional characters.

Bryan Cooney, one of the event organisers, said: "With everything from comic creators and special guests and battling robots, we're looking forward to a glorious day of geeky goodness at Midlands Comic Con. Telford was MCM's very first event outside London, so it's always great to begin our convention year here."

Fans of Red Dwarf will be able to meet and greet some of the stars including Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn, who play hapless hologram Arnold J Rimmer and service droid Kryten.

Also on hand will be Mass Effect video game star Mark Meer, who voices protagonist Commander Shepard in the bestselling games. People will also be able to get a signed photo and have some taken on the day.

All the actors will also take part in a panel where fans will be able to ask them questions.

Meanwhile in the Comic Village, artists and writers will meet fans, including Beyond The Bunker, T Publications, Naniiebim, Sammy Borras, Ryuuza, Kelly Angel and Lisa Cummins.

Internationally known graffiti artist Kid30 from Smallkid Design will be creating some special turtle-themed artwork over at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) stand.

Visitors can also try their hand at spraying their own graffiti, with spot prizes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merchandise up for grabs.

Other attractions include Cosplay Masquerade, a League Of Legends eSports zone and the "battlin' 'bots" of the Robots Live arena.

Some of the retailers attending the show will be Manga Entertainment, MVM Enertainment, Tokyo Toys, The Japan Centre, Funky Collectables, MyM Magazine and Go2Games.

The event plays host to many merchandisers from across the UK and beyond, a chance to located hard to find items or get some great discounts.

Some of the events include London's Comic Con, which takes place in May and October, Midlands Comic Con in February, and Birmingham's Comic Con in March and November.
