Ludlow housing estate plan is rejected again

A new estate of 215 homes on the edge of Ludlow has been refused planning permission – but could still go ahead if developers win an appeal.

Tesni Properties Ltd had already lodged an appeal over a decision last summer to refuse consent for the homes next to the A49 bypass to the north of the town.

Almost identical proposals were rejected again by members of Shropshire Council's south planning committee yesterday after a heated debate decided by a single vote.

Tesni had indicated it would drop its appeal had the plans been approved.

Planning officers had again recommended the plans – which include a new roundabout off the A49, a park on the banks of the River Corve and a new shop – for approval ahead of yesterday's meeting.

Councillor Andy Boddington said: "It was never a well designed scheme with lots of problems of access.

"The developers should now drop their appeal to the planning inspectorate and draw up a new scheme. I am sure that if the developers work closely with the local community and council, a sensible scheme could be drawn up."

"If they are not prepared to do that, they should drop their plans altogether."
