Weapons cache found at Shropshire border home

Police called to a house on the Shropshire/Mid Wales border discovered a cache of guns, swords and even a bow and arrows.

Firearms officers from Shropshire were alerted after colleagues in Wales were told of a number of weapons.

More than a dozen firearms were discovered, along with a collection of ornamental swords. Firearms certificates were also handed over.

No-one was seriously hurt in the incident, which began at about 10.45pm on Wednesday in the Llandyssil area of Montgomery.

Dyfed Powys Police said today they received a report of a domestic incident on Wednesday night.

A police spokesman said: "A 46-year-old male surrendered himself and was arrested on suspicion of assault. Following the arrest a number of firearms, firearms certificates and weapons were seized as a safety precaution. A female suffered a minor injury, which did not require medical treatment.

"Dyfed Powys Police thanks West Mercia Police for their assistance in this sensitive incident."

After officers were stood down, the Operational Patrol Unit for Shropshire tweeted a picture of the weapons.
