Samantha Rosenberg was treasurer of Ludlow Rugby Club, where it is alleged she made cash, cheque and bank transfers to herself.

The 42-year-old from Powys did not indicate pleas to one charge of false accounting and three of fraud by abuse of position when she appeared before magistrates in Shrewsbury yesterday.

It is alleged she falsified the club's annual accounts and presented them as having been audited when they had not between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.

She is accused of abusing her position as treasurer by making cash payments totalling £1,086 to herself between July 9, 2012 and July 17, 2012.

It is also alleged she made cash and cheque payments to her own account totalling £4,746.82 between August 1, 2012 and December 5, 2012.

And she is accused of making bank transfers to her account to the value of £14,495.88 between March 25, 2013 and January 15, 2014.

Wearing a black bird print skirt, a black cardigan and glasses, Rosenberg, spoke only to confirm her name and address as Llangattock, Crickhowell, Powys.

She was bailed to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on April 13 due to the seriousness of the allegations.

Rosenberg was granted bail under the condition that she does not contact Ludlow Rugby Club officials and members.

She was also banned from going to the club or on to its grounds while she awaits further court proceedings.

Rosenberg describes herself as a financial controller and management accountant freelancer with 17 years experience on her online LinkedIn professional networking profile.
