The 17-mile Severn Stride will raise funds for Severn Hospice, with scores of people set to ramble or run from the charity's site in Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury to its hospice in Apley Castle, Telford.

Sarah Maythorne, fundraising events manager at Severn Hospice, said: "We are delighted to announce the return of our hospice to hospice run or ramble on April 25. We first organised the event as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations last year and it was so popular we decided to do it again.

"This year we will be starting at our hospice in Bicton Heath and finishing at our hospice in Apley Castle. We will be providing transport again so people can leave their cars at the finish."

She added: "The cross-country route will incorporate some truly beautiful Shropshire scenery. The event is open to runners and ramblers. Dogs are welcome.

"Registration for the Severn Stride is £10 for adults and £5 for children and we ask that each person taking part raises as much sponsor money as possible. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The money we raise from events like the Severn Stride will help us care for the growing number of people who need our support each year."
