The woman was leaving Morrisons supermarket in Market Drayton when an anxious-looking man approached her and repeatedly asked for directions.

When the woman came to use her card again she noticed it was missing. She reported it stolen but was told that £500 had been taken from her account.

Mayor of Market Drayton, Tim Beckett, said: "These type of people are unacceptable, they prey on the elderly."

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened between 1pm and 1.20pm on Monday. They said that there was no CCTV footage to help with investigations.

The man is described as 5ft 10ins tall with dark hair and was wearing a smart black Crombie coat. Meanwhile, at about 1pm on Saturday, a woman with a foreign accent distracted a cashier at a supermarket in Whitchurch Road, Shrewsbury, while a shopper was paying for her purchases with a credit card.

The shopper drove home to Castlefields and was approached on her drive by a male and a female with a map seeking directions. The two, in their 20s, spoke politely with foreign accents.

On Monday, the shopper discovered her credit card had been removed and had been used for a number of fraudulent transactions.

Anyone with information on either the Market Drayton or Shrewsbury incident should call police on 101.
