Woman airlifted to hospital as A5 closes following police incident on Shropshire border

A woman was airlifted to hospital after a police incident of the A5 on the Shropshire border this afternoon.

There were delays on the busy A5 which was closed at the Gledrid Island and the Halton Island from shortly before 4pm.

A police spokesman said: "Concerns have been raised for the safety of a woman. It was reported to the police at 3.44pm.

"The road was closed while the ambulance and police attended.

"The woman was taken away by air ambulance."

The incident caused delays of over an hour on the road and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The road was also closed for two days after a tractor crash in the same area on Monday.
