Rush hour delays on M54 in Shropshire as roadworks overrun
Early morning commuters through Shropshire found part of the M54 closed today as overnight roadworks ran over.
The westbound carriageway between junctions three for Albrighton and four, the Services junction for Shifnal, had been close for surfacing works and had been expected to reopen before dawn.
However the road stayed shut until about 7.30am, when one lane only was reopened.
Telford office worker Rachel Jenkins, who was caught in tailbacks, said: "The journey normally takes me about 20 minutes but it just stopped by junction three, which was very irritating. I was lucky as I was by the junction so got off went down the A5, but I was still 10 minutes late into work."
A spokesman for the Highways Agency thanked drivers, who had to follow diversions, for their patience.
