From King of the Jungle to the M54: Carl Fogarty leading Shropshire charity ride

He is the King of the Jungle – and today motorcycling champion Carl Fogarty revealed he is to take part in Britain's biggest parade of bikers through Shropshire.

He will be leading more then 3,000 bikers along a 23-mile journey as part of this years Bike4Life Festival.

The annual event fills the A5 and M54 with bikers and raises tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

Today the seven times World Superbike champion, and 2014s I'm A Celebrity winner, appealed for people to join him on the journey from Shrewsbury to RAF Cosford.

Fogarty said he agreed to take part in the event as it will be raising money for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, which he said is a vital lifeline for bikers involved in road accidents.

He added: "I jumped at the chance to get involved as it raises awareness of the life-saving work of the ambulance charity.

"This service is a vital lifeline for bikers with over 40 per cent of the incidents the aircrew responds to being road traffic collisions, which sadly often involve bikers.

"It's going to be a great honour to lead out the 3,000 strong bikers. I hope big crowds will turn up."

Foggy beat X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden in the final of I'm A Celebrity to take home the crown in November last year.

The Bike4Life Festival, on April 26 will also have live music staged by radio station Planet Rock, who will be showcasing the best in Midlands music talent.

Jason Levy, fundraising and marketing director for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: "Bike4Life Fest has grown year on year and Carl Fogarty's support of the event is fantastic and will undoubtedly make it our best year yet.

"We have a great relationship with the biking community, and as well as being a great day out, Bike4Life Fest also aims to raise vitally important funds for our life saving service."

The event is partnered with RAF Museum Cosford and the Safer Roads Partnership to raise awareness of biker safety.
