Man dies after four-car crash on A49 in Shrewsbury

A man has died following a serious collision on the A49 in Shrewsbury.

The four-car collision happened near the Sundorne island in Shrewsbury at about 5.35pm on December 15.

A 28-year-old man was taken to North Staffordshire University Hospital with serious injuries but died on Saturday, it was revealed today.

The vehicles involved in the collision were a silver Kia Cee'd, a silver Vauxhall Vectra, a silver Toyota Auris and a blue Mercedes C220.

Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene. They were joined by the MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic from the Midlands Air Ambulance at RAF Cosford who were in a response vehicle.

At the time West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "The first car had suffered very significant damage. The driver, a man estimated to be about 30 years old, had suffered serious multiple injuries and was trapped."

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to call 101 quoting the incident reference 558s of December 15.
