Bridgnorth rugby club in Christmas carols flash mob fun for shoppers

Shoppers were treated to an impromptu sing-a-long in Bridgnorth when members of the town's rugby club staged a Christmas-themed flash mob.

More than 200 members of BRFC entertained unsuspecting passers-by with the Christmas carol flash mob performance outside Parker Taylor in High Street on Saturday.

The performance, including members of all five men's teams, the women's team and minis and juniors, was filmed on video and will now been posted on YouTube.

The flash mob began with just two club members starting to sing Once in Royal David's City.

By the end of the first verse they were then joined by the women's team before other club members, who appeared to unsuspecting members of the public to be fellow shoppers, joined in.

The flash mob concluded by singing 'O Little Town of Bethlehem' and 'O Come All Ye Faithful' while some members collected funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance in buckets.

The carol singers then urged members of the public to attend the club's first XV Midlands 2 West (North) match on the town's Edgar Davies pitch against Camp Hill, which Bridgnorth won 53-7.

Nerys Arch, women's chairman and under 7s coach, said the idea was thought up by former player, ref and current first XV touch judge, Tim Thomas, as a way to promote the club to the community and inject a bit of festive spirit into the town.

Mrs Arch, who kicked off the flash mob alongside women's skipper Darel Poole, added: "Tim came up with the idea as he loves watching flash mobs on YouTube and thought it would be a great idea to do one.

"That was enough inspiration for me to try and make it happen in Bridgnorth High Street and with Christmas coming it was a great time to sing songs that everyone would know. Being a singer as well as a rugby player, it brings both my passions together.

"It was also a chance to bring the entire club together from the under 7s team through to the women's and men's teams, as well as being something the ex-players and Vice-Presidents could get involved with.

"More than 200 people took part. It went better than I could have imagined with shoppers even stopping to join in.

"It created a very festive atmosphere in the High Street and it was great for people in the town to see the rugby club being so active within the community."
