Mr Kenyon told his class he would carry out a forfeit if they all improved their scores in a weekly maths quiz.

But the youngsters, who knew their teacher was not exactly a lover of One Direction, decided he should wear a T-shirt professing to be the boyband's biggest fan.

When the pupils all improved their scores Mr Kenyon was good to his word and wore the T-shirt at Greenfields Primary School in Shrewsbury all day yesterday.

He was seen around the school with the faces of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson on his chest.

The band have become famous for hits such as What Makes You Beautiful, Live While We're Young and Best Song Ever.

Mr Kenyon, who admitted he had been the subject of some gentle teasing from fellow teachers and some of the youngsters, said: "I challenged my class to all improve their scores in their weekly mental maths quiz.

"If everyone managed to improve in a single week, then I promised I'd do a forfeit – the children, some of who are big One Direction fans, came up with the idea of the 'One Direction's No1 Fan' T-shirt as they know I'm not exactly their biggest supporter.

"Year Six is a really important year for the children and I'm always looking for ways to make their learning that little bit more fun.

"I'm not One Direction's biggest fan, so when their scores all improved they came up with this dastardly idea."
