Inquest opens on man who died after Telford pub assault

An inquest has opened after a 57-year-old man died following an assault at a pub in Telford.

Gordon Drew, of Purbeckdale in Dawley, was pronounced dead at the town's Princess Royal Hospital on November 15.

The attack happened weeks before at The Crown Inn pub in Dawley on October 25, where Mr Drew suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Malcolm Marsh, 46, of Johnston Road, Dawley, was charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident and is currently remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Shrewsbury Crown Court at a date to be fixed next year.

Telford & Wrekin coroner Mr John Ellery adjourned the inquest to await the outcome of criminal proceedings.
