Motorcyclist, 19, seriously injured in tractor crash on A5 near Shrewsbury

A 19-year-old motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was flung 40 feet in a crash with a tractor on the A5 at Montford Bridge in Shrewsbury today.

The crash happened at about 11.55am and the road was closed in both directions between the Churncote roundabout at Bicton Heath and the Nescliffe bypass.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Crews arrived on scene to find a motorcyclist and a tractor that had been in collision.

"The motorcyclist, who had come off his bike, was found on the ground approximately 40 feet away from the tractor.

"The man was treated at the scene for an injury to his collarbone. He was given pain relief and fully immobilised before being conveyed, via land ambulance, to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

Local diversions were in operation as emergency services attended the scene.

Earlier a van driver was killed in a crash with a lorry on the A5 near Oswestry.
