The worried pet owner is told that the 999 is for emergencies only, but insists that the cat is dying and she has no phone credit to call the RSPCA with.

The 999 operator tells the woman that there are people with cardiac arrests in need of immediate help, but the woman responds by asking: "You don't care about the cat then?"

In a second call a man says that he is stranded with only five per cent left on his phone battery, but he needs a lift to Wolverhampton city centre.

The operator responds informing him: "We're not a taxi service."

West Midlands Ambulance Service released the audio along with genuine calls to highlight time-wasters.
