The driver was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford by ambulance.

At around the same time another vehicle collided with a sign on the hard shoulder on M54 eastbound near junction 3. The driver was unhurt.

The Ford Fusion, which collided with the sign, was driven by an elderly male.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service, said: "We did take a patient into Princess Royal Hospital after it appears they spun into a barrier on the junction three slip road.

"But there were two separate incidents, both involving one car, that happened very close to each other on the M54."
