John Allen, 79, a former hotelier and pop band manager, ran the Bryn Alyn Community of 11 homes in the Wrexham area.

He had denied 40 counts of sexual abuse against 19 boys and one girl in the late 1960s up to the early 1990s.

Allen, now living in Needham Market, Suffolk, was also found not guilty of two charges.

The jury in his trial at Mold Crown Court started their deliberations last Wednesday and is still deliberating the final 12 charges. The trial began in October.

The charges resulted from an investigation by Operation Pallial, a National Crime Agency investigation into recent allegations of past abuse in the care system in North Wales.

A total of 21 people have now been arrested or interviewed under caution by NCA Officers. Of these a total of 13 people have been charged, with the remainder on bail pending further enquiries.

A spokesman said: "The number of people coming forward with reports of abuse in the care system in North Wales continues to increase. Up to August 21, 2014, a total of 283 people have reported one or more allegations to us."

Police are now investigating information from 236 people, with 57 people being identified as potential suspects. Work to identify further potential suspects is continuing.
