The accident happened on the A483 north of Chirk just after 6pm yesterday and involved a Peugeot 307 which was involved in a collision with a lorry.

Emergency services went to the scene of the crash - a single carriageway stretch of road between the Halton roundabout and the junction for Ruabon - but nothing could be done to save the car driver.

The lorry driver was not believed to have been injured in the collision.

There were long delays for drivers caught up in the traffic hold ups and police set up diversions taking vehicles through Cefn Mawr and Newbridge.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and information to contact North Wales police quoting reference R185086.
