This striking aerial panorama shows work is progressing well on the biggest solar farm in Shropshire – with council bosses hoping it will be in operation by the end of next month.

Telford & Wrekin Council is only the second council in the UK to build a solar farm. The other local authority-run solar farm is in Cornwall.

Located in Wheat Leasows, in Hadley, building work began on site in September and 70 per cent of the 15,000 panels are now in place.

The installation work will be finished early next month and the solar farm will be fully operational by the end of December.

Once up and running, the solar farm will generate enough electricity to power more than 800 houses.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin's cabinet member with responsibility for commercial strategy and economic projects, said: "We're really pleased that the construction work on the solar farm has progressed so well and on time.

"The solar farm will be making the council money from the new year which is great news for frontline services."
