A heartfelt plea has gone out to help find for a military medal which was lost during a Remembrance Day service in Shrewsbury.

Glynne Medlicott, 92, was proudly wearing his World War Two military medals but it was only after the service which was held at St Chad's Church on November 9 that he realised his Greek campaign medal was missing.

His son Nick said: "At the service someone asked him if anyone has lost an Italian medal. When at the church my father was asked by a military officer if he had dropped his Italian star but as he was wearing it he said no and carried on. My father hadn't but perhaps they had his Greek one and thought it was an Italian.

"He had all his other medals on his chest but this one he had loose in his cap. I think he dropped it on the ground and someone has put it in a safe place to look after it.

"It was only later he realised his Greek medal was missing. He had been carrying it separately from his main medals and put it in his para beret, which it presumably fell out of in the church. He has since contacted the church and at this time they are unaware of anyone handing his medal in."

Born in Church Stretton, Mr Medlicott served during World War Two in a number of campaigns including ones in Italy and Greece. After the war he relocated to London where he worked as a butcher. He retired back to Shrewsbury and was a car park attendant at St Chad's.

If anyone found a Greek campaign medal at the Remembrance Day service at St Chad's please contact Mr Medlicott via the Shropshire Star on (01743) 283313.
