Telford town centre's box road will be made two-way temporarily to ease traffic in the festive rush, council chiefs have announced.

The road is undergoing extensive roadworks but from Monday, Woodhouse Central and Lawn Central will be made temporarily two-way for seven weeks.

The 602 space multi storey car park, which opened in June, will be free from today until Sunday.

They will both revert to being one-way on January 12 to allow works to finish, including tree planting, before the returning to a two-way system next spring.

The council says by turning the sections two-way during the festive period, it will provide a route that bypasses Grange Central and Coach Central where work will continue.

Temporary traffic lights will also be removed from the St Quentin Gate junction at Telford International Centre.

Work on Hollinsgate Roundabout will be suspended on November 24, meaning the approach from Hollinswood Interchange (A442) and around the roundabout will be open to two lanes in anticipation of an increase in traffic.

All town centre car parks will remain open during the work.

Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for transport, said: "I would like to thank everyone for their patience and co-operation while the work has been ongoing."
