Ms Forster, who was 91, was knocked down at traffic lights in Church Stretton on Monday morning.

She lived in the town. Her family has been informed and has requested privacy at this time.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Tuesday but an inquest has yet to be opened.

The collision happened on the north-bound carriageway heading towards Shrewsbury at the junction with Sandford Avenue at about 7am. It involved a Iveco heavy goods vehicle which had a trailer on the rear containing steelwork.

Ms Forster was treated at the scene but ambulance, air ambulance and paramedic crews were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead at the scene at about 7.40am.

Police investigating the crash have renewed calls for the driver of a pick up vehicle following the lorry to get in touch.

Sarah-Jane Lynch, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police are keen to trace anyone who may have witnessed the collision, particularly the driver or passengers of white or silver 4x4 small pickup-style vehicle, similar to a Range Rover seen in the area at the time.

"It is believed this vehicle travelled behind the HGV from Craven Arms and continued to Shrewsbury, passing the HGV which had stopped immediately after the traffic lights on the A49."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.
