A road linking villages to nearby Craven Arms has been closed for emergency repairs after a pipe burst.

The leaking pipe was discovered underneath a bridge on the Westhope road, near Craven Arms, which is expected to be shut for up to three weeks.

The road links Westhope and Seifton Batch with the B4368 to the east of the town.

Sarah-Jayne O'Kane, spokeswoman for Severn Trent Water, said the burst pipe at Seifton Batch was discovered yesterday.

She said: "The pipe is underneath the bridge which crosses the stream in the village.

"We take our health and safety responsibilities extremely seriously, so in order to protect both the people who use the road and our workforce, we unfortunately, need to close the road to get the job done.

"We're working with the local authority and we hope that the repair will take no longer than three weeks to fix.

"A clearly marked diversion is in place while the road remains closed.

"We'd like to apologise to the local community – we know that closing roads is disruptive."
