The site on Abbey Foregate will be turned into 13 houses and two shops after members of Shropshire Council's central planning committee approved plans put forward by Johal Dairies Ltd.

The old headquarters was put up for sale last year after it was replaced by a £1.2 million "hub" in Longden Road.

Under the plans, which were granted consent yesterday, Edwardian-style terraced houses will be built on the site of the old ambulance headquarters. The maintenance and service yard area at the rear of the building will be demolished, and 24 parking spaces will be created.

Councillor Miles Kenny, who represents Underdale, said: "It is nice to see a building being renovated and reused."
