Teenage girl fights off man who tried to abduct her in Oswestry

A 14-year-old girl managed to fight off a man who tried to abduct her in Oswestry.

The teenager was walking along Roft Street towards the Victoria Road junction when she was approached by a man from behind yesterday evening.

He attempted to abduct her, but she retaliated and ran home without seeing the man again.

The incident happened at around 7.40pm on Roft Street.

Sergeant Scott Barnes, the investigating officer, said: "I would like to reassure the local community that we are patrolling the area.

"Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police."

The man is described as white, in his 20s, with black straight hair with a fringe. He was wearing a hooded long dark coat with buttons across the front and a bandana or scarf across his nose and mouth.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a man of this description in the area at the time to call 101 quoting incident 639S of Wednesday November 5.
