The girl, now 19, has accused David Fanning, of Wingfield Close, Shrewsbury, of carrying out the abuse between 1999 and 2009.

The jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday watched a video interview with the teenager in which she described how the assaults progressed.

"I think I was four or five when it started," she said.

"The first time it happened was when we were upstairs. I went to the toilet and then he came up and he just started touching me.

"That carried on for about a year. When I was about six he took me into the garage. I wanted an ice cream and the freezer was in there. Then he started touching me. A few moments later he forced me to touch him.

"He told me if I told anyone then he would kill me."

Fanning, 51, has denied 11 charges of indecent assault and six of rape.

The court heard that police began their investigation last year after the girl reported the abuse.

The trial continues.
