Parish councillors reject caravan site for travellers bid

Parish councillors have voted against a planning application to build a caravan site for travellers.

Members of Prees Parish Council rejected plans to create a separate private caravan park next to the long established 18 pitch council-run site at Manor House Lane in Higher Heath, near Whitchurch.

The new traveller site would consist of six pitches, one for a warden and five for private renters.

At an extraordinary meeting of Prees Parish Council last night, members of the public raised concerns about the size of the development.

Paul Gill, chairman of the parish council, said: "The current council run site has gone quiet in recent years, even to the extent that people living nearby do not notice it. It is well run and there is currently no trouble from the site.

"I am worried having a private site next door to the council run one could cause serious friction."

The parish council voted to oppose the application due the lack of details about drainage, traffic management issues, over sized pitches and a large wardens plot and possible commercial activity on the site.
