Broken down freight trains causing travel chaos in Shropshire

Two broken down freight trains are causing hours of "severe disruption" to rail travel through Shropshire today.

The trains got stuck at Craven Arms and Abergavenny earlier this morning and the lines have now reopened.

But the blockages are still causing delays and cancellations to Arriva Trains Wales services between Cardiff Central and Shrewsbury.

The line has reopened and train and services have returned to normal but delays are expected to remain until 10am.

Trains between Abergavenny and Cwmbran may still be cancelled or delayed for up to an hour and a half.

And services between Shrewsbury and Craven Arms may face two hour tailbacks.

There are no replacement buses and passengers are being advised not to travel in the area if it can be avoided.

Passengers are also being advised where possible to travel via Birmingham New street using other operators trains.

Arriva Trains Wales has apologised for the inconvenience.
