The resident called for help fearing his house in Severn Drive, Wellington, could be flooded. One appliance was sent from Wellington on Friday night at 9.30pm.

The fire service said there was no reported damage to the house.

Meanwhile, a couple escaped after a fire in their kitchen in Eyton Road, Dawley, yesterday.

A smoke alarm alerted the couple who left their home and called 999.

Two fire crews from Telford Centre went to the incident at 12.30pm and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.

Crew member Simon Morris said:

"The woman was suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation and so we called for an ambulance as a precaution."
